2015 favourites

2015 has been a year full of amazing product releases and new beauty loves. I thought in today's blog post I would show you all my personal favourites. Let's finish the year I started blogging with a good old round up.

My favourite brand as a whole this year has been Kiko. All of their products I have tried I have loved, they never seem to disappoint me. They are outstanding quality, not only with the product, but with the packaging too. It looks and seems so much more expensive than it actually is, all of the products are in the same price range as common drugstore brands such as Bourjois and Revlon. My favourite Kiko product as you probably all know by now is the creamy stick highlighter. It adds a gorgeous glow to the skin. I also love their lip gloss sticks.

Another stand out product of the year for me has been Mac lipsticks. They are by far my favourite lipstick formula that I have tried. They last a long time on the lips, and apply so nicely. They are on the higher end side of things, however there are many more expensive lipsticks on the market and I fully believe Mac lipsticks are worth their larger price tag.

"Modesty" is a cremesheen formula.

"Velvet teddy" is a matte formula.

"Twig" is a satin formula.

Top to bottom: "Twig", "Velvet teddy" and "Modesty".

My other favourite lip products have been from benefit. They are the posiebalm and the benebalm. These lipsticks have a wonderfully creamy and super moisturising formula. They have sheer wash of colour, which is perfect for everyday wear. They look so gorgeous on the lips and they definitely help to soothe them and prevent them from becoming dry.

Top: benebalm Bottom: posiebalm

I switch up my foundation all the time, and I haven't really found one that I love. I did rave about the collection naturally matt a few months ago, and I still like it, but I don't use it that much any more. I thought it would be better and more insightful to show you products I have stayed consistent with for a lengthy amount of time. So, because of this, I thought I would show you a concealer I have loved. This is the Collection lasting perfection concealer. If you read a lot of blogs or watch YouTube videos on a regular basis you will have already heard many things about this concealer. I love it, it has a high coverage and is a great budget friendly buy.

Top: "fair" Bottom: "warm medium"

Another amazing product that I discovered this year is the sleek contour kit. I mainly use this for the contour shade as it is perfect, and I have other highlighters that I prefer over the one included in this set, but overall it is a great buy. The contour colour is cool enough to create that natural shadow, but warm enough that you can get away with it as an overall bronze. It also works very well in the crease of the eye.

I have my contour kit in the shade "light"

An obsession of mine this year has been the Maybeline colour tattoos. These are fabulous! They are super creamy, which makes them so easy to blend out. They are great as bases for powder eyeshadows as they are great primers, however they work just as well on their own for a simple wash of colour.

Top: "Creme de nude" Bottom: "On & on bronze"

My favourite mascara this year has again been from Maybeline. This is their lash sensational mascara. It is amazing for creating long, dramatic lashes. It is very hyped about again on blogs and on YouTube but I do really love it!

My favourite eyeshadows this year have been from the Rimmel glam eyes hd palette in the shade "brixton brown". They are very pigmented, creamy and easy to blend. The colours are so beautiful, and I find this quad is so versatile.

Swatches of the Rimmel palette

Moving onto skincare, my favourite moisturisers have been the Boots baby sensitive and the Superdrug vitamin E radiance moisture cream. I have loved using the boots one when my skin is extremely dry, and I have loved using the superdrug one when it isn't as much.

My favourite body product of 2015 has been the Soap and glory scrub of your life body scrub. I love this so much! It smells lovely, and it works so well at exfoliating your skin. I love Soap and glory as a whole but this has been the stand out product for me.

My favourite nail polish brand of the year has been models own. If you were wondering what was on my nails throughout this post, it is the colour "champagne" which is the one furthest to the right. They apply so easily, dry fast, and you can get away with one coat!

My favourite scent of the year has been flower by Kenzo. This has been my favourite scent for as long as I can remember. There is something about the scent that I adore. It has notes of opopanax, white musk, Bulgarian rose, wild Hawthorn, cassie, palma violets, hedione and cyclosal.

And to finish, I thought I would show you a random favourite. My random favourite of 2015 has been hair clips like this. I love them! They are so good for everyday wear with my short hair, I just take two pieces of hair from the front and clip them at the back with one of these. They look pretty, and they keep your hair out of your face.

That is all for my 2015 favourites. This post is huge! It took me a long time to put together but I hope you enjoyed it. Have nice, safe new years eve, and I wish you all the best for 2016.

Bye for now,

Blogmas day twenty four // The final day

Overall, I have loved doing Blogmas this year. It has been so much fun. Hard at times, which I guess is understandable, however, it has truly been so great.

The first thing I wanted to talk about is my makeup advent calender and my posts surrounding it. I loved having a makeup advent calender this year - it was very cool. The makeup advent calender I had (if you missed the previous posts, they can be found here and here) was the Makeup revolution one. It was a great calender, it had a wide selection of products and every day I was happy with what I received. However, something I didn't enjoy, to be honest, was doing a blogmas post on them. I hadn't had a chance to try any of the products out, so I felt as if the posts weren't very interesting to read, and there was so much more I wanted to squeeze into blogmas, rather than just 'wasting' my days on them. Because of all this, I have decided to do a 'makeup revolution advent calender favourites' post sometime in the near future. In this post I will show you all my favourite items from the calender. This will also give me the chance to try them out a bit more and really give a proper review on them. I apologise for only going up to day ten with the 'what I got in my advent calender' style posts, but I wasn't really enjoying them so I imagined you probably weren't either.

My favourite blogmas posts

1. Day 14
2. Day 23
3. Day 20
4. Day 4
5. Day 7
6. Day 21
7. Day 16
8. Day 13
9. Day 15
10. Day 19

Leave me a comment below telling me your favourite blogmas post of mine!

The second thing I want to talk about is me continuing blogging. Don't worry, of course I am, but I would just like to say as much as I am going to try to post very frequently, it is going to be hard as I am in my last year of school, and with that comes stress and of course, lots of studying. This studying may mean I won't have as much time to blog as I would like, but I promise you I will try as hard as I can to get a blog post up at least twice a week. I want to do more than that - blogmas has made me realise how much I love blogging!!!

And finally, the third thing I want to say is a big Merry Christmas! If you didn't read my trying to feel festive or not today blogmas posts you won't know that I haven't been feeling very excited about Christmas. Now it's Christmas eve, and I am super excited for tomorrow. I want to thank all my readers for supporting my blog, as this snippet of the interweb means so much to me, and it being a huge part of 2015 has made me very happy.

I'll see you before the year ends. ;)

Have a fabulous Christmas tomorrow &

Seasons Greetings,

Blogmas day twenty two // Christmas sleepover essentials

One of my favourite things to do at this time of year is have a festive sleepover with my friends.

I think it's so much fun, getting cosy under blankets, eating too much food, and laughing ridiculous amounts.

Here are 5 things that I think are essential for the perfect Christmas sleepover:

1. A good Christmas film

What makes a Christmas sleepover Christmassy? A feel good Christmas film. I actually have a whole blog post dedicated to my favourite Christmas films, and you can check it out here

2. Ingredients for an amazing hot chocolate

Hot chocolate powder, squirty cream and marshmallows. Perfect!

3. Fun Xmas pj's

They are even better if you get matching ones with the friend you're having a night in with!

4. Pamper products

Taking the time to give yourself a special pamper on your special night is a great idea. It will make you feel super relaxed and ready to snuggle up!

5. CHOCOLATE!

Now, let's be real, you can't have a Christmas sleepover without some sort of treat! My favourite chocolate is this one - Dairy milk with Oreo, it is so delicious!

Blogmas day twenty one // Easy shortbread biscuits

Today I made some shortbread biscuits. They were very easy to do and a perfect festive snack, so I thought I would show you how I did them! I don't actually share many recipes on my blog, but I do love baking.

You will need:

  • 150g of plain flour. (I actually used self raising this time, if you do, just be sure to prick the biscuits with a fork before they go in the oven to prevent them from raising too much)
  • 100g of butter
  • 50g of caster sugar
  • A drop or 2 of vanilla extract
For decoration:
  • Icing sugar & water
  • Different colours of icing
  • Edible balls
1. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees
2. Add the flour and the butter to a bowl and breadcrumb the mixture
3. Add the caster sugar and vanilla extract
4. Bind the dough together
5. Wrap the dough in cling film and put it in the fridge for 1 hour
6. Remove from the fridge and roll out the dough
7. Cut into your desired shapes
8. Bake for 25 minutes
9. Remove from the oven and leave to cool for 10 minutes
10. Decorate with the decorations of your choice

Enjoy!

Blogmas day twenty // Winter skies

Over the past couple of mornings, I have seen the most beautiful skies. A mixture of colours has created the most wonderful view out of my bedroom window, and I thought I would show you a glimpse of what I got to admire.

Blogmas day nineteen // A few Christmassy things

Here are a few Christmassy things I have captured over the past few days:

Wearing Christmassy makeup. Cranberry smokey eyes are the one for me at the moment.

Baking buns whilst listening to Christmas songs.

Constantly wearing my burgundy high neck jumper. It's just the perfect colour.

Seeing the festive lights in Meadowhall.

Eating turkey and cranberry sandwiches in cosy cafes.

Blogmas day eighteen // Christmas jumper day w/ ThatGirlWhoBlogs

ThatGirlWhoBlogs

Today nationally it was Christmas jumper day, and I thought it was a good idea to show you not only my Christmas jumper, but Izzy's too.

They are both from Primark. Mine is a pale grey colour with a brown reindeer on. It has a fluffy stomach section which is extremely soft. The overall jumper is very cosy and a bargain at £9.

Izzy's jumper is actually from the Men's section at Primark. Personally, we both don't mind because we feel as if Christmas jumpers are Unisex. Also, we feel as if the men's section has better Christmas jumpers, for example Izzy's sings. In the women's section, they were a few good ones, however the men's were more Jazzy and fun, so if you are into that kind of thing, be sure to have a wander over to the men's. Izzy's was also £9.

Blogmas day seventeen // Not today

I'm not doing a christmassy post today, because to be completely honest I am not in the mood.

Christmas is my favourite time of the year, except this year, it hasn't been. I haven't had the happiest festive period, and I feel as if even though doing Blogmas is great, I may seem all Christmassy and merry, when really, I am not feeling like that at all. There are many things going on in my life at the moment - things to do with myself, school, home, whatever, it's generally everything, and moving past these things and attempting to make head space for Christmas is proving hard. Every single night, for the past 17 nights, I have been sitting down and writing a blog post. No pre written ones, each one I have typed just before I have published it. Every time I have done this, it may have lifted my Christmas spirits slightly, or distracted me from current on goings, but it's so hard to be fully involved with something when you are not fully there, if you get what I mean. Christmas this year hasn't not been all I expected it to be. In November, I was all for it. I was so excited for the festive period. Come December, that has completely done a U-Turn. To be blunt, Christmas could be cancelled and I wouldn't lose sleep over it. (Not that I am having much sleep at the Moment) This mind set will change in a few days, fingers crossed...  I don't want to sound like Scrooge, everyone knows how much I love Christmas, and it genuinely upsets that I am not in spirit, which isn't helping my happiness levels. I don't want my lack of Christmas joy to affect Blogmas - I like that I am putting out festive content everyday for my lovely readers to enjoy, and believe me, I am trying to get my festive fun on'. I would like to give a massive shout out to my amazing friend from http://iizzyc.blogspot.co.uk/. She has been so good to me recently and I honestly appreicate it so much! Tomorrow, Xmas themed posts will resume and I'm sure they will be pretty good as over the next couple of days I have a lot of great Christmassy happenings! I'm sure this weekend will brighten my spirits, and hopefully if you are going through the same thing as me, it ill brighten yours too!

Blogmas day fifteen // Any Christmas traditions???

Here are 10 things that as a family we do every Christmas:

1 - Hang mine and my brothers personalised baubles on the tree, which we have had since we were born.

2 - Go to the cinemas for a festive day out around Christmas time, usually to see a Xmas film

3 - Go for a festive walk, either on Christmas Eve or Boxing Day.

4 - Ensure we go to bed before midnight on Christmas Eve.

5 - Tyler, my brother, always wakes me up on Christmas morning

6 - We open our stocking presents whilst sitting on my mum's bed

7 - Eat chocolate for breakfast on Christmas day

8 - Open a 'table present' before we begin our Christmas meal

9 - Make Christmas dinner together. Well apart from my brother, he never really helps. I always cross the sprouts/ (If you know what that is, good on you)

10 - Buy, prepare and eat way too much food!

Blogmas day fourteen // Monday treat // Maybeline 3 for 2 + Free gift

It's back. The return of the Saturday/Monday treats. Who's excited?! I definitely am. And this time, it is better than ever, and that is because, it is a festive edition. Well, almost.

At this time of year, lots of brands come out with amazing deals. Lots of free gifts get thrown around, and the Maybeline one is something special.

The Maybeline deal is: If you buy 3 things from the brand, you receive a 2 piece nail polish set. However, when you buy 3 things, one of them is free too because of the 3 for 2. So really, you are getting 4 products (5 if you count each nail polish) for the price of 2.

This applies to all Maybeline products.

I got the following:
-Baby skin primer
-Fit me concealer
-Colour tattoo in Creme de nude

+the free gift in 'let it snow'

All these products totalled up to £14, which is amazing. However you could really make the most out of this deal by buying either really cheap things and getting the free nail polish for a lower cost or buying more expensive things but saving more. I went somewhere in the middle.

I think that this Maybeline offer would make some lovely gifts, as you could put together a makeup bundle for a friend or relative.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and most importantly, you enjoyed the fact that the treats are back!

Blogmas day thirteen // Places I would love to visit at Christmas

Each Christmas, we do the same sort of thing and stay at home. There isn't anything wrong with that. I like the traditions, the cosiness, the warmth of being with my family... however, there are so many places I would like to go to in my life, at Christmas time.

New York

I would love to go to New York at Christmas. The outdoor ice skating rinks, the lights, the music, the baked goods on the streets, the shopping, being in the place where ELF was filmed...

Germany

The impressive Christmas markets, with their beautiful stalls and handmade goods, and oh, don't forget the food! German sausages, hot drinks, as you stroll around the stunning Christmas havens.

Iceland

I think this is actually at the top of my list. One of my main goals in life is to see the Northern lights, as well as go to Iceland. Imagine visiting Santa, seeing the reindeer, going on a sleigh ride, or even one pulled my huskies, staying in an igloo hotel, diving into hot ice pools... And most importantly, seeing the indescribable natural beauty which is the Northern lights.

Prague

Again, a place filled with the most amazing markets. Old town squares, picturesque scenery and wonderful decorations.

London

Surprising to most people, I have never been to central London, let alone at Christmas. I do imagine it to be magical though, the shopping and the decorations seem so fantastical.

Blogmas day twelve // Day 6-10 of my makeup revolution advent calender

Before you read this post, make sure you've checked out day 1-5 here.

Today's the day I show you the last five things I got in my advent calender! Here goes:

An orange lipstick. Quite unusual, as it's a straight up orange with no pink or red tones. I like that they included this, a thing you wouldn't usually opt for, but when you receive it and experiment with it, you might actually end up loving it.

A dark brown eye-shadow. Great for using as a crease colour, or even a liner.

A purple lipstick. I actually love purple lipstick so I am so excited to try this out! If I wear anything else on my lips apart from nudes, it will be a purple. A not too dark one, just one like this actually.

A hot pink blush. I am so excited about this! I have always gravitated towards pale face colours, however, as I have seen in a lot of makeup tutorials, if you use the smallest amount of a bright blush, it can instantly perk up your cheeks and give you a really natural flush.

And finally, a coral lip-gloss. You can't really go wrong with one of these. They are easy to wear, and I actually like that it comes in a traditional tube applicator.
